Peeling
The finished peeling of a log has a noticeable impact on the overall look of a log home.
Using a traditional hand held drawknife, our logs are clean peeled.
However, from time to time we also supply homes with a rough peel to incorporate a rustic feeling.

Settling
All new log buildings, whether hand crafted or machine cut, experience some settling.
Unfortunately, some less scrupulous log home companies refuse to acknowledge
this fact, leaving the client to deal with the future consequences.
Quite simply, settling is a result of drying wood and compression.
The Log Connection uses careful notching, over-scribing techniques, and special devices
designed to accommodate settling and stay tight for generations.

|
Bottom-Round Anchoring
We flatten the first round of the logs to provide a broad bearing surface for an
even load transfer to the sub-floor and foundation. The first log is fastened directly
to the foundation as detailed in the blueprints. The subsequent log courses
are through-bolted from top to bottom for additional stability...

Window / Door Openings
Each log wall opening containing a window or door has a specially designed slip
trim to accommodate the settling. There are many different designs, however
our preferred system is designed to reduce future maintenance and provide
a highly effective moisture seal.

|
Electrical Wiring
Our system is designed for easy installation and finishing by pre-drilling the wiring
holes that extend from the electrical switch or receptacles all the way
through the floor or to the roof. To guarantee the electrical
boxes are an exact fit, we pre-fit all boxes within the log work before
shipping. When properly accommodated,
electrical wiring for a log home is quick, simple and without construction issues.

Stairways
Typically, a log home staircase is constructed with half log stringers
(outer supports) with either half-log or timber treads.
The ends of the treads either sit on top or they are housed (mortised)
into the stinger for strength and visual appeal.

Preparation for Delivery
To maintain the highest level of craftsmanship, we prepare the home for delivery
by numbering all logs with tags.
To ensure they will not deteriorate during
transportation, we apply a non-hazardous wood treatment to
prepare for staining, maintain color and to deter mold and
fungus growth.
